I’ve been working on a Christmas Quilt (will show pictures when complete) where all my blocks are snowballed. It has 240 total 2 1/2 inch squares going on all four corners. If you are a quilter you know how much work that entails. Marking each square corner to corner, sewing a 1/4 inch seam and then cutting off the excess. I’ve been working on this for a while and keep getting board with all the drawing, sewing and cutting of each corner.
I happened to be watching a quilting video the other day and found a ruler that I can not live without. It is called the Folded Corner Clipper by Prairie Sky Quilting. I promise you it was a god send. I have finally finished all my blocks and get to the best part, piecing it and finishing my quilt top! The accuracy it incredible. Without it I was constantly ripping seams and having to resew which is quite frustrating but I was determined to get things right. Now I don’t even have to think about it.
There is no need to draw pencil lines! Since you have to trim the corners anyway, why not trim it first and use the raw edge as your seam guide? It’s perfect for Cornered Rectangle Blocks, Flying Geese, Diamond in a Square and a Snowball Block.

Update – looks like I won’t be able to applique these till after Easter weekend. So many things left to do to get ready for the grandchildren. 🙂
I started working on a few applique butterfly blocks (12 to be exact) with some of my favorite batik fabrics. I plan on turning this project into a table runner. Today I will machine applique with my favorite applique stitch, blanket stitch with invisible thread my favorite being Aurifil Invisible Thread. You can also get a 2 pack with light and dark invisible thread here Clear-Aurifil Invisible Thread they will last a very long time. When I finish I will post a picture.
One of the items I use and think I can’t live without are my Bobbini’s Bobbin Holders
Other items I have used in this project of course is my Lite Steam-A-Seam 2
Batik Fabric Layer Cake Primo Batiks by Marcus Fabrics. I am sorry this layer cake is no longer available but there are many other batiks out there that will work for this project. I’ve had this one for a while and loved all the bright colors. I must admit I had no idea at the time what I was going to use it for, can you relate? 🙂
I also use Aurifil 50 wt threads for all my quilting projects. Here is a good beginner pack to check things out for yourself Aurifil 50 wt Quilter’s Super Set. It’s great for 1. Machine piecing: Gives a great result with a nice flat seam every time. 2. Hand piecing : A great weight for hand piecing. 3. Hand applique’ : Ideal for all types of hand applique’ .
I also get some really good deals here on other threads for different projects –Threads and Floss
I will have more info once I complete the project completed.
That’s it for today. Happy Quilting! 🙂

In the 3 years of my quilting journey I have found a few things that I think will be very helpful in the process of preparing our quilts for our loved ones, friends or our favorite charity. There is so much love and care in making our quilts that anything that makes the process easier is welcome.
For starters I will add a few items and will update regularly when I find new items.
Of Course the main item in my quilting and sewing room is my machine. I sew on a Janome Horizon Memory Craft 12000 Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery Machine. I’ve been sewing on this machine for the past 2 years and have loved every minute. It has gorgeous stitches. I also can use the embroidery part for quilting some of my quilts. You can also do edge to edge quilting with it. If you have any questions feel free to reply below.
If you’re interested in this machine this link give you lots of accessories, you can purchase it here – Janome Horizon MC12000
The Mighty Steam Iron is a super plus in my sewing room. It’s a lot less hand fatigue than having to use a large iron for every seam we are sewing. When I need a larger iron to complete my quilt top my go to favorite is the Oliso Pro, an excellent iron.

Some other items include the Quilt in a Day square up ruler, measures 9 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches. This has been one of the best tools in my sewing room and the creative grids 6 1/2 in.X 24 1/2 in. ruler.

You can purchase the Creative Grids Ruler here – Creative Grids Quilting Ruler
For your rulers that you already have but they seem to slide around on you I have found a product call TrueGrips. They are clear non-slip adhesive rings that you apply to the back of your ruler. They do not block any of the numbers or lines.
You can get TrueGrips here –TrueGrips Clear Adhesive Rings
In my quilting process I have started doing applique. One of the best items on the market in my opinion is Lite Steam-A-Seam 2. Double sided temporary stick, bonds permanently when ironed. Before ironing you can place and move over and over until your applique is just how you want it. Create soft applique’s for quilts and clothing – no sewing required. Machine wash and dry or dry clean. I do use my favorite applique stitch when making my quilts because they will be laundered often and I don’t want my applique to come undone.
